At St Nic’s, all children take part in a daily maths lesson. As a school, we have adopted a Mastery Approach, supported by the use of the White Rose Maths scheme and our work with the Maths Hub. This means that all of the children within a year group work on the same topic at the same time. We want all of our children to have the same opportunities in their maths learning, so we make use of time outside of maths lessons to work with children who need additional help, to keep up with the rest of the class. Therefore, we work to ensure these children do not end up with gaps because the rest of the class have moved ahead of them.
The theory is that children have the chance to deepen their learning, rather than racing ahead.

The children have regular opportunities to practice their basic maths skills and revisit topics they have previously covered as we believe this will help them to secure their knowledge.

We have subscriptions to TimesTables Rock Stars to support with this. The children are able to access these programs from home and this is a huge support for the children when preparing for the multiplication check in Year 4.
At the heart of our maths curriculum is the aim that all our children become curious, confident and flexible mathematicians.
