We were extremely proud to receive a letter last week from Nick Gibb, Minister of State for School Standards, congratulating us for our place in the top 3% of schools nationally for phonics, with 100% of our year one students passing the phonics screening test last year.
In his letter, the minister said “Your success in teaching phonics and early reading so effectively means your pupils are developing a firm foundation in reading, from which they can become increasingly fluent and develop a lifelong love of reading.
Thank you for your work in this vital area of a child's early education and congratulations again to you and your staff for all you have achieved.”
Literacy and love of reading and writing is at the heart of the curriculum here at St Nics, and we are so proud of all of our students who show us every day their incredible imaginations and determination to be the best they can be.
This is the second year in a row St Nic’s have achieved a 100% pass rate at the phonics screening test, highlighting the great teaching and support our students get in Key Stage 1 and throughout the school.
Well done to all of Dolphins class, and we hope your love of reading and writing continue to grow as you move through the school.
