Giraffe Class is where children start their journey at St Nicholas.
Reception is where children build their early writing, reading and maths skills alongside learning about themselves and the world around them.
We use the Early Years framework to shape our cross-curriculum approach, allowing children to learn through engaging and interactive tasks either with an adult or independently in the classroom.
We have an outdoor space that children have access to throughout the day and we regularly go on local walks around the village.
Our mornings consist of a more structured learning approach that mirrors what they’ll experience further up the school using Read Write Inc for our daily phonics lesson, adult initiated maths and literacy tasks, and regular reading with an adult.
The afternoons are more flexible and can include outdoor explorers, PE, music lessons, art activities, role play, or pretty much anything else the children show interest in.
Spring Term Update: Transport
This term in Giraffe Class we are looking at Transport which means we’re how we get to different places using vehicles for land, air and sea.
We will be looking at a variety of stories including Mr Gumpy’s Outing.
We are continuing to learn our sounds in Phonics each day,
following the Read Write Inc scheme of learning, and starting Set 2.
Our maths focus this term continues to explore number bonds to 5
and also looking at shapes and patterns.
PE will now be on a Tuesday afternoon with Miss Brombley.
Our afternoons will include small group reading, outdoor explorers, RE, music and art.
Mrs Gillies will be teaching Giraffe class on a Wednesday afternoon.
